Great Smoky Mountains Autumn Photography Workshop

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is world-renowned for it’s amazing array of biodiversity. In fact, the park is both an International Biosphere Reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hosting more than 1,600 species of flowering plants and 100 species of native trees. Nature photographers flock to the Smokies for their panoramic vistas of layered blue ridges, pristine rivers and streams, and brilliant autumn color in late October.

Richard has been leading photography tours and workshops in the Great Smoky Mountains since 1999 and knows the park was well as any photographer working today. He considers the Great Smoky Mountains his home Park and despite traveling to the world’s faraway places, comes home to the Smoky Mountains every year. This workshop has been scheduled to coincide with peak autumn color in the area.

We resist publishing a detailed workshop itinerary since the weather and light conditions can vary greatly from day to day and even hour to hour. The greatest amount of flexibility is needed in order to ensure you are in the best locations at the best times. Richard’s knowledge of the area is extensive and he will use that knowledge to maximize quality shooting time.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and all meals during the workshop. Transportation will be arranged via carpool between the hotel and the shooting locations.

We have a block of rooms reserved with a special group rate at the Talley Ho Inn (www.talleyhoinn.com) in Townsend, Tennessee. After registration is completed, you can download a PDF booklet that includes the hotel discount, as well as a gear list and other recommendations. You should then call the hotel directly and reference the Richard Bernabe workshop to secure your lodging. You are welcome to stay anywhere you please during the workshop, but the recommended hotel will be the most convenient since it will also be our meeting place each day.

I participated in Richard’s Smoky Mountains workshop in October: Richard is absolutely wonderful! He is not only an amazing photographer, a patient advisor and a knowing guide, but he has gorgeous heart and a great sense of humor!

Thanks again for a great workshop!  As the low (wo)man on the totem pole skill-wise, I went in with a lot to learn and came away feeling so much better equipped as I approach things going forward. A couple of things were real game-changers for me, and I’m excited to apply them in future photo outings.
