Morocco Photography

Photographing and visiting Morocco is an exciting immersion into another world, where Arab and Berber heritage, history and culture are inextricably bound. Exotic culture and foods, wildlife, landscapes, and colorful people are all a part of the Morocco experience. This 13-day/ 12-night Morocco Photography Workshop and Tour with Richard Bernabe will have you capturing the very best this unique country has to offer. Richard has made many trips to Morocco and has customized the itinerary to be optimal for travel photographers of all skill levels.

Itinerary

September 1: Casablanca – Upon arrival in Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, you will be met and transferred by van to your Casablanca hotel, where you will check in and relax for the afternoon. Depending on time, you would have a tour of the impressive Hassan II mosque. Dinner will be served out in a local restaurant. HOTEL CLUB VAL D’ANFA

September 2: ChefchaouenAfter breakfast, you will leave towards Chefchaouen, the famous blue city of Morocco in the Rif Mountains. On route, you will stop at Rabat, the capital city and residence of the King, for lunch and a time to enjoy the beautiful coastal city. You will have a brief visit of Rabat: the the La Tour Hassan, Mausoleum Mohammed V. After lunch you will continue on to Chefchaouen for the night. Dinner will be served in the hotel. DAR MEZIANA

September 3: Chefchaouen – Before breakfast, you will head out on an early morning shoot. After breakfast, you will have a tour of this “cool” blue town, tucked away in the mountains. You will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Rif Mountains. Perfect for photography, this blue city offers every shade of blue. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, you will head out on an excursion into the Rif. Be prepared to enjoy a different part of the Moroccan culture. Dinner will be served in a local Restaurant. DAR MEZIANA

September 4: Chefchaouen / Fes – Before breakfast, you might want to climb up the edge of the mountain for a beautiful shot of this small Berber town. Or maybe just relax. After breakfast, you will set off directly to Fes, the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. In the evening, you will have a visit to the Ramparts of Fes for some spectacular medina shots. Dinner will be served in the Riad. RIAD MYRA

September 5: Fes – At sunrise, you will be ready for some shots of the ancient city from the beautiful overlook. After breakfast you will begin your guided tour of the medina, one of the world’s largest walled in cities. You will explore the narrow streets lined with fresh fruit, mounds of spices, intricately woven Berber carpets and many other art objects of Morocco. For lunch you will eat in traditional restaurant in the heart of the medina. After lunch you will complete the tour and return to your riad for the evening. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant. RIAD MYRA

September 6: Fes / Erfoud / Sahara – After an early breakfast you will begin your ascent across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Most of the day will be spent winding your way through the beautiful forests, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert. Half way, you will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks. In the afternoon, you will make your way down along the Ziz River Valley. Upon arrival in Erfoud, you will jump into the 4x4s and head out to the dunes. Sunrise and sunset at the dunes is well worth the visit. RIAD MADU

September 7: Sahara Desert – Don’t miss the sunrise on the dunes. In the morning, you will have an optional 4×4 ride around the dunes and a visit to the Nomadic Berber Villages. Listen to some of their music while you get some people photos. For those looking for adventure and some deep desert shots, you will set off by camel for a camel trek in the dunes and sleep the night in an Tent will spend the night. (Dinner is included).

DELUXE MODERN TENT – CAMEL & TENT: Nestled in private sand dunes off the beaten path, this modern, white-canvas tent experience mixes modern luxury with a rural desert experience! With its white linen beds and tasteful, chic décor, this Deluxe Tent experience is the most luxurious in the region. The private camp is located about 15 minutes south of the main Erg Chebbi sand dunes, which makes this experience feel more exclusive and protected from large tourist groups. Each deluxe tent has a simple, Western-style bathroom built from cedar wood and equipped with toilet, shower, and sink. With this experience, you will enjoy a 30-minute camel ride through the sand dunes to see the sunset and back 30 minutes to the luxury camp.

September 8: Sahara Desert / Todra Gorges /Ait Benhaddou – After breakfast, you will return by camel to the 4x4s and head back to Erfoud. From Erfoud you set out behind the High Atlas Mountains on route to the Ait BenHaddou.. The picturesque river valleys make for a beautiful journey towards the southeast of Morocco. You will continue your trip along the route of 1000 Kasbahs. If you would like, you can visit the ancient Kasbahs in the palmaries. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. You will then head out to the Kasbah Ait Benhaddou where you will be ready for the sunset and sunrise. In typical Moroccan fashion, the true treasures must be searched out and discovered…usually off the beaten path. In actuality, this setting has been used for more films than any other location in Morocco; films including, Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, and recently The Gladiator. Dinner will be served at the Kasbah. KASR IGHANDA

September 9: Marrakech – After breakfast, you will head off towards Marrakech over the High Atlas Mountains. Take some time enjoying this beautiful landscape. Once in Marrakech, you will check into your hotel and then head off to the Djemaa el-Fna, the center square of the medina. The famous Djemaa el-Fna, is one of the center attractions of Marrakech. Coming alive at night with the local storytellers, entertainers, and mouth-watering barbeque pits, the square is well worth a visit. A quiet cup of tea on the terrace of an adjacent café provides a spectacular aerial view of the bustling square. Dinner will be served at the hotel. RIAD CHERGUI

September 10: Marrakech – After breakfast, you will have a guided tour of Marrakech, the southern pearl of Morocco. You will discover the Palace of the Bahia, the Saadian Tombs, and many other hidden treasures. After lunch, you will continue with the tour on to the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque and the famous Djemaa el-Fna, one of the center attractions of Marrakech. You will explore the souk (market) lined with fresh fruit, mounds of spices, intricately woven Berber carpets and many other art objects of Morocco and then head off to visit the Majorelle Gardens. Dinner will be served at a local restaurant. RIAD CHERGUI

September 11: Marrakech / Essaoiura – After breakfast, you will set off to the coastal city of Essaouira, a picturesque fishing town, lying on the southwest coast of Morocco. With an exquisite beach to the south, Essaouira has become one of Morocco’s most popular coastal towns. Many of the countries wood carvers and artists make Essaouira their home. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Along the route, you will have some fantastic coastal views! Dinner will be served at the Riad. RIAD MIMOUNA

September 12: Essaoiura / Casablanca – Today’s travel will take you back to Casablanca. You will leave Essaouira for Casablanca with a stop at El Oualidia on the way. You will drive along the coastline to El Jadida where you will visit the citadel and see the underground cistern. You will then continue on to Casablanca, where you will spend your last night in the country. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant. HOTEL CLUB VAL D’ANFA

September 13: Casablanca / Depart – After breakfast, you will head to Casablanca Airport.

Cancellation Policy

Final payment is due 90 days before the tour starts. To cancel after final payment has been made, 25% refund (minus initial deposit) between 90 and 30 days. No refund within 30 days. If we can find another customer to take your place, we will give you a 100% refund (minus your initial deposit).
